Morgan State TE Vishante Shiancoe

“He was unbelievable at Indianapolis, He just has a lot of talent. GM Ernie Accorsi on his round 3 pick
In the third round, Big Blue went with another superb athlete, Morgan State TE Vishante Shiancoe. The 6-5, 250-pounder made his name – and caught the Giants eyes – at the scouting combine in February.
“He was unbelievable at Indianapolis,” GM Ernie Accorsi said. “He just has a lot of talent.
“He absolutely knocked the lights out at Indianapolis. He was the star at Indianapolis. He can block. He has more receiving skills and speed.”
Shiancoe came into his own during his junior year with the Bears, finishing his career with 52 receptions for 1,001 yards (19.3 avg.) and 11 touchdowns.
The Giants liked Shiancoe from the start, but according to Accorsi “we weren’t going to pick a tight end until the third round.”
Accorsi was especially happy with the club’s second and third choices because New York considered trading up, opted not to and still got its men –
Osi Umenyiora
in the second and Shiancoe in the third.
“In the second and third rounds, we didn’t trade up and we got the guy anyway,” he said. “We targeted these two and we got them.”
Sunday, the Giants have one fourth-round pick, one fifth-rounder and three picks in each of the sixth and seventh rounds. Accorsi admitted that New York was looking for a cornerback or an offensive lineman. Also, don’t rule out Clemson DT
Nick Eason
, whom New York considered in the first round.
